The all-glass high resolution optics of the Precision Design .25x Super Fish Eye is manufactured in Japan and have been engineered to do one thing and do it well; reduce the focal length of a lens by .25X to provide an amazing fish eye view. Depending on the camera model and lens it's mounted on, the image can cover the entire frame edge to edge or provide a circular image fully contained within the frame. At only $60 for a fisheye, it's not so bad. But not good enough quality for the more serious photographer, but then, I expect they would buy a more expensive lens anyhow. It is an attachment, and fits on the end of your regular lens, it is not a lens in itself. Any attachment is not a perfect substitution for the real lens. You need good light, and the focus wasn't exact, on my first run with it. It takes trial and error, and perhaps manual focus instead of AF. 15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Quality product, worth every cent By AdamP I have been interested in fisheye photography since I bought my new SLR. I looked up the real Nikon lenses and as a teenager working minimum wage, well you can guess the rest.
I heard about these attachments at a photography store and heard they were not quite as good as a "real" fisheye lens. I decided to purchase this one in order to feed my craving for a wide field of view with a fisheye effect. The product arrived promptly had had to ship all the way from the east coast to Oregon, which made me quite happy since I hate the waiting after you buy things on the internet. The fisheye seemed slightly heavy to me at first but my 18-55mm lens auto-focus works perfectly. Yes, when you take pictures it is a circle cut out from the middle of the rectangular black picture. This can be cropped in a manner that makes it look like really bad vignetting however. After i experimented with the lens I was more than happy the angles it offered. I have estimated an approximate 170 degree view and have noticed that as long as you can see the glass on the front of the lens, it can see you. At least at 18mm. Don't try zooming further. In other reviews I had read that this item has low quality glass and is blurry on the outside. Yes this is for the most part true, but I have found that closing your aperture will allow a much larger depth of field with this fisheye attached. There is a certain point as the image progresses towards the outside of the circle that the blurriness cannot be repaired.
I have also found that when using photo-shop, adding sharpness can do a great deal for my photographs. All in all, I have found this to be very worthy of my money and I most certainly recommend it to anyone out there looking for a cheap alternative to the big time fisheye lens's.
